Art Lab: Reduction Linocut

Art Lab: Intro to Linocut

Join us to learn the basics of reduction linocut with Samantha Thompson, a professional visiting artist in residence.

At this workshop you will learn:

  • Process and brief history

  • How to prepare your image

  • Image transfer onto a plate (15 × 15cms Lino)

  • Set up registration system (Ternes -Burton registration system)

  • 3 colour plus white reduction

  • Final printed work

Everyone leaves with a finished piece and a couple of beautiful prints to take home.

What’s included: All materials (ink, linocut, tools, and high-quality printmaking paper)

Encoding with Recyclables (Ages 16+)

Join SICK AF artist Melissa Cameron for a hands-on workshop exploring material reuse, code, and contemporary jewellery making techniques. This free workshop is presented in partnership with Art on the Move, offering a rare opportunity to work with a travelling artist whose practice brings contemporary art directly into regional communities.

Melissa’s practice uses pre-existing plastic bottle lids with centres cut out to encode climate change messages into binary language. Each letter of the English alphabet is translated into eight codes — represented by eight bottle tops — allowing words and phrases to be tracked through colour, repetition and pattern. Participants will work word-by-word to create vibrant, jewel-like hanging works that communicate hidden messages through material and form.

Working alongside the artist, participants will be guided through simple but effective techniques including wire stripping, hole-punching plastic and wire twisting. Each participant will create their own finished artwork to take home.

This workshop is suitable for ages 16+ and is limited to 15 participants.

Date: Saturday 14 March
Time: 1–3.30pm (2.5 hours)
Cost: Free
What to bring: Please bring your collected plastic bottle tops

Soul Kitchen Choir (Workshop)

Soul Kitchen Choir
Where singing is the main ingredient!

Tilly Kay brings versatility and joy to the craft, reading the room and tailoring parts to suit your capacity. Her choir workshops strike a balance of play over perfection- while still learning new singing skills and techniques.
Tilly regularly witnesses the way a room full of voices tune and carry each other.
You better believe she believes in you!

In this workshop we’ll be learning songs from Tanya Ransom and Adele Oliver.
These are profound pieces of songwriting, lending themselves well to a group singing experience.

Tilly Kay runs this workshop with Tanya and Adele as a team - creating a live, rich musical backdrop for us all to sing along to.

Soul Kitchen is born from the idea that singing collectively is a great strategy for mental health. This choir workshop is for everyone.

No experience necessary.

Join us Friday 6th February at Cannery Arts Centre from 5.30pm. Register for your free ticket.

“That was completely exhilarating.”

“I loved it. It was a great way to wind up on a Friday when I was feeling tired and it lifted my spirits.”

“It’s really good to sing with community. Tilly’s amazing and makes you feel like you can actually sing.”

“I’ve never sung in my life and I never thought I would enjoy it so much.”

“I felt so safe singing in a group and then hearing the beautiful songs that we produced all together, where there’s not one stronger than the other but we’re all in a collective. It was absolutely beautiful.”

Participants can use one of our 8 Chompsaws (thanks to Chompshop) and Makedo cardboard construction tools (by Makedo) to safely cut and connect cardboard pieces.
