AXE A SPOON BLANK WITH NEIL GRAY

Join Western Australian greenwood carver and artist in residence Neil Gray as he guides you through taking a log and axing out your very own Spoon Blank in readiness for carving it. You will be in a small group of six so Neil can assist you. Axe safety, axe geometry, how to hold the axe, how to hold the wood, the chopping block, are just some of the concepts Neil will impart to you. At the end of the workshop you will have your very own Spoon Blank, but more importantly, the ability to create more for your wood carving journey.

Neil Gray is a Western Australian greenwood carver, carving unique and hand carved items from a variety of woods. Grevillea, olive, Golden wattle, bottlebrush, peppermint tree, apple and more. Tea and coffee provided, BYO lunch.

KickArts: Herbal Alchemy

Explore the Cannery Arts Centre Forage garden on a little sensory tour, smelling and feeling different herbs and learning about their culinary and remedial uses, with Silke Apel from Leafy Greens Esperance. Silke loves everything gardening and loves to assist people and the community in growing their food and applying permaculture principles to everyday life. After wandering through the garden, participants will create their own herbal alchemy or garden potion and write a recipe to take home including a herbal or flower bouquet that can be dried or used in the kitchen.

All materials are provided. Participants should wear clothes suitable for crafting, and must wear closed in shoes. Recommended to send them with a labelled water bottle.

Age: 6+ years

$20 Cannery Member
$35 Non Member

KickArts: Insect Hotel

Insect hotels offer a sanctuary to beneficial insects, especially pollinators. In this workshop, participants will create an Insect Hotel, using all natural materials they gather around the Cannery Arts Centre Forage garden to “furnish” their Insect Hotel. Guided by Silke Apel, from Leafy Greens Esperance, who has a passion for gardening and loves to assist people and the community in growing their own food and applying permaculture principles to everyday life. The main frame will be provided and kids have the option to leave it natural or decorate it with paint.

All materials are provided. Participants should wear clothes suitable for crafting, and must wear closed in shoes. Recommended to send them with a labelled water bottle.

Age: 8+ years

SAFETY: Please be aware this workshop will involve the children collecting items from the Forage vegetable patch and Cannery gardens-please provide information if your child has any allergies to bees, insects, pollens etc. You will be asked this in the booking process.

Bee Hotel

Bee Hotel

FORAGE VOLUNTEERS

Join potter Claire Mitchell as she guides Forage volunteers in the creation of bird baths and bee waterers for placing around the Forage Community Garden.

Sunday 28 May 9.30am-11.30am straight after the Forage 9am meet up

Free to attend, for Forage volunteers, supported by the Cannery Arts Centre committee.

Registrations essential though as places limited-children welcome with a parent/guardian accompanying them.
