The Esperance Potters Club presents EPiC - an exhibition exploring the self-discovery, creativity and opportunities found in the process of working with clay.
Building on the Club’s long tradition of annual exhibitions, EPiC showcases works by local potters at all stages of their creative practice.
The exhibition explores the epic art of challenges, frustrations, self-discovery, and moments of inspiration that emerge through working with clay, an ancient material that continues to surprise, teach and transform. It is about finding the sweet spot: that deeply personal, almost sublime place where one can simply potter, or pot with passion and purpose. Adding another layer of challenge, discovery and unpredictability, members have also been learning and experimenting with Raku firing, embracing the risks and rewards of a process where no outcome is ever guaranteed.
“EPiC stands for Esperance Potters Club, with a lowercase ‘i’ placed proudly at its heart. I for Id. Inspiration. Idiosyncrasy. Incredible. Iconic. Infinite. Immeasurable. Innovation. Impetuosity. Irregular. Immense. Illuminating. Inquisitive. Invaluable. A single letter that speaks to the many possibilities, contradictions, and creative impulses that shape both the artist and the art.” — Karen Ritchie, Curator
