LOVE IN LONGREACH and other towns

  • Cannery Arts Centre Norseman Road Esperance, WA, 6450 Australia (map)

Beloved local and esteemed artist Tammy Andrews returns to the Cannery Arts Centre for her first Esperance exhibition in a decade.

Tammy brings with her a collection of works on paper and canvas, alongside three-dimensional painted pieces, created from her “studio on the road” while travelling Australia by caravan.

Moving through the Australian landscape, Tammy captured its people, places and everyday goings-on, translating moments of travel, observation and connection into her distinctive visual language.

Her work is shaped by the environments she moves through, from expansive landscapes and Australian botanicals to people, still life and the quieter moments found within interior spaces. Together, the works reflect the adventure of life on the road alongside the familiar comforts of the everyday.

After a year of travelling and making, Tammy looks forward to returning home, sharing this new body of work and reconnecting with the Esperance community.

Opening: 6pm, Friday 9 October
Exhibition: Saturday 10 October – Saturday 31 October
Opening hours: Tuesday–Friday, 10am–4pm | Saturday, 12pm–4pm

artist bio

Tammy Andrews is an Esperance-based Western Australian artist whose practice centres on painting, drawing and an enduring curiosity for the world around her.

A graduate of Curtin University, Tammy has studied both in Australia and internationally. Since being introduced to oils as a student, she has rarely strayed from the medium, drawn to the sensual quality of oil paint and its capacity to be worked in an almost sculptural way.

Tammy has long been influenced by impressionistic approaches to painting. Her work embraces generous, tactile brushwork, with thick strokes of colour meeting and colliding across the surface.

Her subjects move between still life, people, places, Australian botanicals and the landscapes she encounters as she travels and lives throughout Australia. She is equally drawn to quieter interior spaces and familiar objects, finding moments that evoke connection, memory and comfort.

Charming, captivating and at times magical, Tammy’s paintings invite the viewer to linger over their colour, texture and expressive brushwork.

Creativity is an innate part of Tammy’s life. Making is something she cannot imagine living without.
