Esperance Art Awards 2022

The Cannery Arts Centre in conjunction with its sponsors is pleased to bring you the Esperance Art Awards for 2022. Formerly known as the Esperance Biennial Art Awards, there are a total of 9 Award Categories; with all entered works receiving automatic entry to The Shire of Esperance Award of Excellence, valued at $3,000.

The awards are open to any artist living in the Esperance-Goldfields region (Esperance, North to Kalgoorlie, West to Ravensthorpe/Hopetoun and East to Balladonia/Beaumont). Works must have been completed within the year of the exhibition date and not have been exhibited anywhere before. A wide range of mediums will be accepted from paint to print to sculpture to photography, and must be the original work of the artist.

In order to make the awards a huge success, we are calling on local and regional artists to enter their work.

TERMS & CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  • All artists must be residents of the Esperance/Eastern Goldfields Region (Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Ravensthorpe /Hopetoun, Beaumont/Balladonia).

  • A maximum of two entries per artist is permitted.

  • All entries must be received no later than 4 pm Tuesday 8th November 2022.

  • Late entries will not be accepted. Please note we are CLOSED Monday 7th November but open for registration over the weekend for your convenience.

Criteria

Entries must be the original work of the artist, completed in the last 12 months and not previously exhibited or entered into a competition anywhere, including online.

All works must be for sale.

The Cannery Arts Centre reserves the right to refuse entry to any works deemed unsuitable for the exhibition.

Due to the restriction of hanging space please be aware that your work may not be displayed. Artists will be notified if their work(s) are not accepted. The decision will be final however feedback will be provided.

All works must be presented in a finished condition suitable for exhibiting, with all the correct hanging devices. The Cannery’s requirement is D rings (minimum size 7mm) on either side of the work.

Two-dimensional and three-dimensional wall works are not to exceed 1.2mx1.2m (including frame). Three-dimensional pieces must not exceed 1m x 1m floor area.

Any works found to be plagiarised will be automatically disqualified.

Sales, Fees, Commissions and Prizes

Entry Fee Cannery member $10 per work

Entry Fee Non-member $25 per work

Entry fees are non-refundable

The Judge will determine for which category the works are eligible.

Entry in the Indigenous Art Award is eligible to artists of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island descent only.

The Judge's decision is final. The judge will be responsible for selecting all awards excluding the popular vote.

The Cannery Arts Centre will handle all sales.

A commission of 20% will be charged on all sales

No more than 2 pieces per artist will be accepted. Sets or multiples (which count as one entry) must be sold as such.

Payment will be made to artists for works sold within four weeks of the exhibition conclusion minus the 20% gallery commission.

Delivery, Freight and Insurance

Insurance is the responsibility of the entrant

Delivery of works must be to the Cannery Arts Centre, Norseman Rd ESPERANCE

Artists are to arrange and meet all costs of freight (delivery and return) of artworks. No entries will be accepted on which there is freight to pay upon receipt.

All freighted entries must be packed to withstand travel. The Cannery will not accept liability for any damage whilst in transit.

All artworks must be submitted with the following details SECURELY attached to the back of the work:

  • Artist's name, phone number, email address

  • Artist Instagram handle (optional)

  • Artwork title and medium

  • Price inclusive of 20% commission and GST

All unsold works must be collected at the conclusion of the exhibition. All works will be ready for collection from the Cannery on between Wednesday, 1st February - Saturday, 4th February 2023. All works not collected will become the property of the Cannery Arts Centre to be sold at a later date.

All works must be suitably presented and ready for exhibition. Non-standard display equipment specific to the artwork must be supplied by the artist with full instructions for use. Special display requirements must be discussed and agreed upon with Cannery staff prior to delivery for installation.

No works are to be removed prior to the conclusion of the exhibition - January 31, 2023.

Copyright

The artist will retain copyright however the Cannery reserves the right to reproduce images of the works for publicity purposes.

GST

Artists who sell works during the course of the exhibition will be required to provide an ABN number or a completed Statement by Supplier form prior to payment being made.
