Join Our 2026 Install Volunteer Team
We’re inviting our Cannery community to be part of something special - our Install Volunteer Team for 2026!
With new gallery lighting on the way and exciting touring and local exhibitions lined up, we’re looking for a small group of passionate, capable volunteers to train and assist with exhibition installations throughout the year.
Who We’re Looking For
Are you an artist wanting to build your professional skills?
An art lover curious about what goes on behind the scenes?
Or simply someone who enjoys being hands-on and helping bring exhibitions to life?
If so - we’d love to have you on board!
What’s Involved
You’ll learn the ins and outs of gallery installation - from handling artworks safely to perfecting the lighting that makes them shine. Tasks might include:
Hanging and positioning artworks
Adjusting lighting for the perfect presentation
Moving plinths and furniture
Labelling, condition reporting, and other gallery tasks
There’s a mix of physical and lighter duties, so everyone can contribute in ways that suit their abilities.
Training Sessions
You’ll receive professional training in both lighting and gallery installation. Volunteers are required to attend one or both sessions:
Lighting Workshop: Sunday 7 December, 10am–2pm
Gallery Skills (installing, handling, condition reporting):
Monday 9 February, 10am–4pm AND
Tuesday 10 February, 10am–12pm
Volunteer Commitment
We ask for a minimum of 16 hours across the year — that’s just four 4-hour shifts (usually on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays).
Perks
Volunteers will receive:
A Cannery T-shirt to keep
Snacks and good company during shifts
The opportunity to work alongside Cannery staff and exhibiting artists
And that great feeling of helping make the Cannery’s exhibitions shine ✨
Interested in joining?
