What is included in String Art Packs:

- Instructions

- Wooden board - many thanks to Esperance Men in Sheds!

- String/yarn, various colours

- Templates - fish, whale tail

- Flat-top nails

What you will need to source:

- A small hammer, scissors (to cut out the templates!) some tape (to secure the templates to the wooden board), and a little bit of time.

  • Decide which template you wish to use, the whale tail or the fish, cut out template and use tape to adhere the template to the centre of the wooden board. You can also go rogue and design your own template if you wish!
  • Carefully hammer the nails into the wooden board, using the dots on the templates as a guide as to where the nails should go. Note - if you do design your own template, it is important that there are nails at any vertex, as well as regularly spaced on any curved shape (approx. 10-15mm apart).
  • After all the nails are securely nailed into the wooden board, grab the string! Start by tying a piece of string around one of the nails - remember to leave a tail!
  • Continue by wrapping the string around the other nails - follow the outside edge of the template, criss-cross your string, go zig-zagging, use different coloured strings - just remember to wrap the string around each nail as you go!
  • Once you are happy with your string art and you feel your creation is finished - tie the string to the last nail, remembering to do a double knot!
  • Take a pic and share it on the socials - remember to use the hashtag #cankickarts

  • Packs contains small, sharp pieces! Nails! This pack is NOT suitable for children under the age of 3, as small pieces may present a choking hazard. In addition, children over the age of 3 should be supervised at all times when using the contents of this pack.
  • The level of adult supervision and/or hands-on parental assistance required will depend on the age and ability of the child.
  • Unlike some of the Cannery’s other July 2020 KICKARTS workshops, there will be NO workshop guiding participants in the use of this pack.
  • Tips - source a small, light hammer, and remember to keep the activity fun!
